Mentoring

Being a youth can come with its own set of particular challenges.

It can be a stressful time filled with some uncertainties, pressures, and self-discovery which can all get a little overwhelming at times.

At Arevalo Counseling & Mentoring, LLC we're here to be your partners, your cheerleaders, and your guides to let you know: You’ve Got This!

Embarking on a journey of growth, achievement, and personal development often requires a guiding hand, a source of wisdom, and a supporter invested in your success. This is where mentorship plays a pivotal role.

A Mentor is an experienced person who willingly shares their knowledge, skills, and expertise with you, the Mentee. Mentors serve as trusted advisors, providing guidance, encouragement, and constructive feedback as they join you on your journey towards growth.

What is a Mentor?

Bringing a wealth of expertise to the table, Mentors support you in making informed decisions, developing new skills, increasing your confidence, all in support of achieving your goals. Mentors can act as:

What Does a Mentor Do?

  • Guides: Navigating the complexities of life and career paths with the wisdom gained through experience.

  • Role Models: Inspiring you through their achievements, values, and the way they navigate challenges.

  • Teachers: Imparting valuable skills, knowledge, and lessons learned from their own journeys.

  • Supporters: Offering you encouragement, motivation, and a steady hand during both triumphs and setbacks.

  • Advocates: Believing in your potential and championing your aspirations.

How is Mentoring Different From Counseling?

One of the major differences between Counseling and Mentoring is the relationship that is established. A mentoring relationship can be more informal, and meetings can take place in various settings. Unlike Counseling services, Mentoring does not include assessments, evaluations, or clinical diagnosis. The cost of both approaches is another big difference between them. Counseling has various levels of care and cost, most of which is typically covered by insurance.

Since Mentoring is not a clinical service, it is not covered by insurance and therefore considered an out-of-pocket service. The relationship between a Mentor and Mentee is based on mutual trust, respect, and a shared commitment to learning and growth. While Mentors offer their guidance and support, the Mentees are expected to actively seek knowledge and take ownership in applying feedback.

What are the Benefits of Mentoring?

We get it, opening up and talking to someone can be a little scary. But here's the thing: we’re looking to have real conversations and understand YOU – your interests, struggles, dreams, and quirks. So we're all ears and provide judgment-free zone to talk about stress, relationships, school, and everything else that's going on in your life.

Sometimes, you can feel confused, lost, and uncertain of what decision to make. Maybe you're aiming for better grades, facing tough decisions, exploring career paths, or just trying to figure out life. In these moments, it helps to have someone in your corner. We’re here to lend a supportive ear and provide an opportunity to consider your options. Our focus is on highlighting the fact that you've got incredible potential within you. All it takes sometimes is a little guidance to unleash it.

“A mentor is not someone who walks ahead of us to show us how they did it. A mentor walks alongside us to show us what we can do.”
