  • Currently, we work with clients age 10 years old and up.

  • In order to confirm an appointment for your initial assessment, you are required to complete our Enrollment Packet in advance, which includes consent forms and our policies. After our consultation, the Enrollment Packet will be emailed to you from our business email and will include a secure Foxit link for you to review and complete electronically in advance allowing us time to review information, verify insurance/EAP benefits (if applicable), and provide appointment confirmation.

  • During your first Mentoring session, we will be getting to know each other as we start establishing our relationship. You will be asked to share about your current circumstances, challenges, interests, and needs in order to begin developing a mutually agreed upon plan for future mentoring sessions.

  • During your first appointment, we will be focused on gathering information from you as we will want to get to know you and start building our professional relationship. This might include asking you questions about your background, your goals for counseling and any previous attempts you’ve made to resolve these struggles.

  • Since we have already asked that you verify your insurance benefits prior to your appointment (see below) as well as completed the Enrollment paperwork sent to you by our office via Foxit in order to confirm your appointment, all you need to bring to your first session is yourself.

  • Each Mentoring session will generally be 30-40 minutes.

  • For an initial appointment, we will generally meet with clients for approximately 60 minutes.

For follow-up appointments, we will typically meet with you for 45-55 minutes, depending on clinical necessity.

  • Arevalo Counseling & Mentoring, LLC recognizes every client's counseling/therapy journey is unique.  How often you attend sessions and how long it is recommended you engage in counseling will be influenced by many factors. Much depends on the individual client and their goals in seeking counseling. Some clients are satisfied with a reduction in symptoms while others continue longer because it feels beneficial to do so. Others begin to schedule less frequently, and may continue to come in for “tune ups” or when issues arise. Ultimately, as the client, it is your decision when to stop therapy.

According to the American Psychological Association, “on average 15 to 20 sessions are required for 50 percent of patients to recover as indicated by self-reported symptom measures”. Additionally, they state that through the working relationship between the client and counselor sometimes the preference is for “longer periods (e.g., 20 to 30 sessions over six months), to achieve more complete symptom remission and to feel confident in the skills needed to maintain treatment gains.”  https://www.apa.org/ptsd-guideline/patients-and-families/length-treatment

Therefore, your engagement in counseling depends on several factors because everyone has unique counseling goals. Like any other relationship, it takes time to develop a therapeutic relationship with your counselor and identify your treatment goals, establish a plan of action, and work towards accomplishing them. Whatever your number of sessions will be, we will work together to meet your needs and determine when you have met your goals and are ready for discharge.

    -Gain Clarity

    -Develop Coping Strategies

    -Manage Emotions More Effectively

    -Improve Decision Making

    And more…

  • We accept both self-pay and several insurances. Please see our Rates & Insurances page on our website for more information.

  • Mental Health services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan.

It is important to know that your mental health coverage may be “carved out” to a third party network. For example, you may have Aetna for your physical/medical coverage but your mental health coverage might be with a different network partnered with Aetna.

Please call the number on the back of your insurance card to find out what Mental Health benefits are covered and if we are in-network of providers. Please check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions:

-What are my mental health benefits?

-What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

-Do I have a co-pay for therapy sessions and how much is it?

-How many counseling sessions does my plan cover?

-How much does my insurance pay for an out-of-network provider?

-Is approval required from my primary care physician?

-Is authorization for treatment required from my plan?

Arevalo Counseling & Mentoring, LLC makes every effort to verify your insurance benefits prior to your first visit. Verification of benefit coverage is not a guarantee of claim payment. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions (e.g. authorizations, network requirements) outlined in your member contract with your insurance company. We have no authority to make representations to you regarding coverage of items or services covered.

If we are not within your insurance network, you may obtain services as a self-pay client and we may consider out of network benefits if available.

  • Most insurances will cover teletherapy. The same benefits, session limits, deductibles, co-pays, etc that apply to your in-office visits will almost always apply to your teletherapy visits.

  • In order to engage in teletherapy, you will need:

-Reliable internet-connected computer, tablet, or smartphone. If using a tablet or smartphone, please DO NOT hold the device in your hand for duration of session and ensure you can settle it down somewhere.

-Webcam or built-in camera on the device

-A comfortable place where you can talk in private without interruptions. Headphones are recommended for additional level of privacy.

  • Yes! All of our services offered may be paid out of pocket.

    1. Use a computer or device with camera and microphone.

    2. Go to https://doxy.me/sarevalo

    3. Type in your name and click check-in

  • We are aware of the numerous barriers to accessing mental health services and do our best to make our services accessible to everyone. To do so, we have set aside a couple of reduced rate slots on a short-term basis through Open Path. For more information about Open Path, please visit https://openpathcollective.org/.

  • Beginning January 1, 2022, federal laws regulating client care have been updated to include the “No Surprises” Act. Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services called a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) explaining how much your medical care will cost.

  • If you are attending in person, you may pay by cash, check, or credit/debit card through Square. For clients who are receiving teletherapy services, you will be required to provide a credit/debit card on file which we will charge for session fees/copays on the day of your session.

  • If you need to change or cancel your appointment, you are required to provide a 48 hours advance notice of cancellation. If you miss a session without cancelling or cancel without the 48 hour notification period, you will be responsible to pay the full fee for the scheduled session.

  • Since anybody over 18 is considered a legal adult, they will need to seek out for therapy services and consent to participate themselves. If they authorize us to share information with you, we will have them complete a Release of Authorization of Information so that we can speak with you.

  • There are exceptions, such as for legally emancipated minors where parental/legal consent is not required. However, in most cases, clients under 18 will need the consent of biological parent(s) or legal guardian(s) before receiving outpatient mental health treatment.

  • In the case of divorced or legally separated parents, who provides consent for a child's therapy will depend on custody agreements and a number of other considerations.

Please note, that it is our policy to obtain consent from BOTH of the minor's parents/legal guardians PRIOR to confirming an intake appointment. We will request to see a court-approved divorce decree and/or other documentation before scheduling an appointment or disclosing information.

  • Arevalo Counseling & Mentoring, LLC does not provide crisis or after-hours emergency services. Individuals who seek crisis counseling typically require same-day support to resolve stressful situations or feelings. We offer outpatient counseling services by appointment only, Monday through Friday.

For this reason, if a client experiencing crisis contacts their therapist after the therapist’s work hours, they will call local Police Department to request a Welfare Check and/or client will be advised to either contact call 9-1-1 or to call 9-8-8 for 24/7 crisis counseling by the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

  • A Welfare Check also known as a mental health welfare check or emotional well-being check, is a proactive intervention conducted to assess an individual's mental and emotional state. It is initiated by calling local police department to make a visit to you are currently located or your last known location. A Welfare Check may be requested in situations where there might be reasons to believe that a person is experiencing extreme emotional distress or at risk of harming themselves or others. The goal is to provide immediate support, connect the individual with appropriate resources if needed, and ensure their safety and well-being which may or may not include hospitalization or referral to higher level of care.
